Johnaye Kendrick Quartet / Dawn Clement and Steve Kovalcheck 

Dawn Clement and Steve Kovalcheck are a dynamic duo in the world of modern creative music, each bringing a wealth of talent and expertise to their collaborative projects. Clement, a celebrated pianist, vocalist, and composer, has been a prominent figure in jazz for over two decades. Her impressive career includes performances with jazz greats such as Jane Ira Bloom, and Julian Priester and she has recorded with GRAMMY-award winning vocal ensemble, säje and Matt Wilson's "Good Trouble". Clement currently serves as Associate Professor at MSU Denver and has recently been appointed Artistic Director of the Centrum Jazz Workshop. Joining forces with Clement is Kovalcheck, a talented guitarist renowned for his exceptional skills and creativity. While having worked professionally in Nashville and New York, Kovalcheck has called Colorado home since 2007. Kovalcheck performs and records with Akiko/Hamilton/Kovalcheck and also performs with the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. While in Colorado, he serves on the faculty of the jazz studies department at UNC Greeley. Together, Clement and Kovalcheck form an engaging duo, captivating audiences with their innovative and magical performances.

2-time Grammy award winning vocalist, arranger, composer, orchestrator and multi-instrumentalist, Johnaye Kendrick received a Master of Music from Loyola University and an Artist Diploma from the prestigious Herbie Hancock Institute. Johnaye performs original compositions as well as fresh interpretations of beloved jazz and contemporary works. A dedicated educator, Johnaye serves as Chair of Music and Professor of Music at Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University. In 2014, she founded her johnygirl record label in efforts to release honest music representative of her world. On this label she recorded, produced and released two albums: HERE, a collection of heartfelt originals and FLYING a collection of originals and covers. In 2024 Johnaye received a Grammy® Award in the category of Best Arrangement Instruments and Vocals for her arrangement of In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning, written alongside her vocal group säje and Jacob Collier. In 2025 she received a Grammy® Award in the same category for her original composition and arrangement of Alma, written alongside säje. Johnaye is a recipient of the Jack Straw Creative Residency (2023.)
