Are you a leader? Chances are good you are in some respect. Do you want the work and responsibility that come with being a leader? Chances are good you’re already doing it. Consent is a complex topic; there’s a lot to learn. There is even more when you’re someone who holds power or authority. With so many moving parts, managing consent from the leadership context takes practice, special knowledge, and a deeper understanding.

This workshop provides an overview of what dealing with consent is like. It begins the Consent & Leadership Series by covering consent in more detail, going over definitions & concepts you will need for future classes, and looking at the pieces that make both practicing and managing consent as a leader more complicated.

Class Format:

  • Video classes with Workbooks for you to watch and follow on your own to learn about and familiarize yourself with the required concepts. The videos are included in the series price. You will receive links for them.
    • There will be an on-line quiz to confirm you did watch and absorb the information from the videos. This should be taken prior to the group workshops.

Power is the ability to create change in our situation or experience. Of all the things that impact our ability to give and receive consent, power has more influence than any other single issue. It’s important to understand the privilege and the risk that power brings. It’s vital to understand the impacts power has and ways to deal with it.

This workshop provides a deep look into power dynamics and the impact of power differentials. Through exercises and discussion we’ll look at where power comes from, some ways to mitigate the impact, and how power, used well, can create positive change.

A Consent Ethos is a statement of what you or your organization believes about consent: what it is, how it works, and why it’s important. Having one is essential to building a strong consent policy. It’s also incredibly useful when trying to explain consent and your practice of it to others.

This workshop has exercises, questionnaires, discussions, everything you need to get started on building your own ethos. We’ll also look at what it means to hold a systemic lens and use that as the framework for building an ethos for your whole organization.

Class Format:

  • Video class with Workbooks for you to watch and follow on your own to learn about and familiarize yourself with the required concepts. The videos are included in the ticket price. You will receive links for them by email.

No one ever said consent would be easy… at least no one paying attention. Once we move beyond ethos and power, we run smack into issues of bias, assumptions, and awareness gaps. If that wasn’t enough, these issues intersect with one another in ways that both create and enhance the gaps we deal with. Luckily, there are ways to manage all this.

This workshop will look at the ins and outs of bias: those created by our culture, our families, and our personal history. We’ll explore the impact on our assumptions and our lives. We’ll work on where it all comes together to impact how we handle consent, both personally and as a leader. And, we’ll talk about ways to reduce the impact on ourselves and our organizations.

  • Video class with Workbooks for you to watch and follow on your own to learn about and familiarize yourself with the required concepts. The videos are included in the ticket price. You will receive links for them by email.

Trauma: the experience of psychological or emotional injury. It’s something we’ve all heard of. Many of you have already experienced it yourself. As a leader working with consent you will certainly encounter it in others. You need to understand the types of trauma you’ll find and how to work from a trauma-informed perspective. It’s essential for managing a consent incident.

This workshop provides a deeper look into what trauma is and how it impacts the body, mind, emotions, and self. We’ll talk about why you need to have a trauma-informed perspective, especially around consent and consent incidents, and manifestations of acute, compounded, and secondary traumas. If you’re a leader working with or around consent, this training is essential.

Once a consent incident happens, you often need more information. This can be part supporting and part of getting enough information to formally review the incident. There are good ways and problematic ways to do both. You also need to decide what to do with the information you collect and make sense of what happened.

This workshop gives insight and skills for managing a consent incident without causing additional harm; focusing on how to get information in a safer, compassionate, and trauma informed way. We’ll cover the basics of interviewing and evaluating an incident. If you ever might find yourself in the position of taking information, about consent or anything else, this class is for you.

Class Format:

  • Video class with Workbooks for you to watch and follow on your own to learn about and familiarize yourself with the required concepts. The videos are included in the ticket price. You will receive links for them by email.
    • There will be an on-line quiz to confirm you did watch and absorb the information from the videos. This should be taken prior to the group workshops.
  • Interactive Skills Workshop (via Zoom) for you to come together with other participants to learn and practice the skills discussed in the videos. You need to watch the associated videos prior to the workshop.

After the information has been gathered and a Consent Incident has been evaluated there are still the issues of reviewing the details and creating a plan for holding the people involved accountable for positive change. There are many ways to go about this, some positive and some harmful. Finding the ways that work for you and your organization is important.

This workshop provides an outline for the review process, options for creating an accountability plan, ways to communicate your plan, and how to follow through on it. We’ll look at some of the potential problems and challenges that come up and we’ll review scenarios to examine what the process might look like.

Class Format:

  • Video class with Workbooks for you to watch and follow on your own to learn about and familiarize yourself with the required concepts. The videos are included in the ticket price. You will receive links for them by email.

Consent is complicated and full of the unexpected. Consent Incidents, even more so. There seems to always be something surprising, dismaying, or both. After years of consent work, we’ve built quite a database of ways things can go wrong. Join us for a look at things that go sideways and what you can do about them.

This workshop provides a look at difficult and challenging situations that come up around consent. Using scenarios and discussion we’ll look at common issues and how to solve them from a leadership perspective. Lots of space will be given for participants to ask questions and bring up their own concerns.

Class Format:

  • Video class with Workbooks for you to watch and follow on your own to learn about and familiarize yourself with the required concepts. The videos are included in the ticket price. You will receive links for them by email.
